Hampta Pass Trek

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

Himachal Pradesh is one of India's most visited states. Beautiful, untouched snow-capped mountains are a major tourist draw in the province. Tourists from all over the world flock to this majestic, unpolluted, and serene location to nourish their mind and soul while admiring nature's unfathomable beauty.

In Sanskrit, the word 'Hima' means'snow,' hence the name Himachal Pradesh, which means 'in the lap of the Himalayas.' Many adventure sports are practised in the state's mountains. Trekking is one of them that is widely practised in this region.

The Himachal Mountains have over 200 designated trekking trails, including the Hampta Pass trek, Dhaulandhar (Triund Glacier) trek, Parvati Valley trek, Bhabha Pass trek, Sari Pass trek, Beas Kund trek, trek to Chamba and Pin Parvati, and trek to Kakeri Lake.

The Hampta Pass Trek is the shortest and most comfortable of all the treks in Himachal Pradesh. It may not be the most adrenaline-pumping or sought-after trek, but it is certainly a trek that will leave you in awe of this magnificent place.

The trails vary greatly; scenic landscapes, open green pastures and meadows, glacial valleys, easy access, and an excellent, adventurous, and hair-raising pass crossing make this trekking expedition to Hampta pass an exciting one.

The Hampta pass trek usually takes four days, but one extra day is added to the itinerary to visit the well-known and beautiful Chandrataal, a high-altitude alpine lake just a few hours from Chatru. The months of May and June, as well as August through October, are ideal for hiking. Snow is one of the reasons why Hampta Pass is a popular trekking destination; the pass has a large amount of snow, which attracts more tourists.

Manali is the closest station. As a result, the journey begins in Manali and ends in Chika via Jobra. The trek starts with a walk from Jobra. This is the first day's path. On the second day, Balu ka Ghera is reached. On this day, you'll walk by incredible boulders, Gendrame, and Rani Nallah. The third day's destination is Shea Goru, which is reached through Hampta Pass from Balu ka Ghera. Along the way, you'll pass by mind-boggling and magnificent glaciers, cornice formations, and snows.

On this day, the highest point will be reached, at 14,100 feet. The fourth day will begin in Shea Goru and end in Chatru. On this particular day, the descent is slow. The valleys of Lahual and Spiti, as well as the Pir Panjal and Spiti mountain ranges, will be visible. On the same day, you can also visit Chandra Tal Campground and spend the night there. The trek's final day takes you from Chandra tal to Manali. The infamous Chandratal lake, darkest of blue shades, can be visited from the Chandra tal campsite.
